Otter Moving plastic bins delivered to a Brooklyn apartment
Packing is no bother

Pack the Otter way — without the cardboard mountain.

Every NYC move usually ends the same way: a recycling pile half the size of your old apartment, a fortune in tape, and a guilty trip to the curb. It doesn't have to be that way.

Our plastic moving bins are clean, sturdy, stackable, and ready to go. No flattening boxes, no building boxes, no taping seams, no scrambling for supplies the night before move day. We deliver pre-assembled bins to your door, you fill them up, our crew loads them onto the truck, and we pick them back up once you're unpacked.

They're made from 100% recycled plastic, sanitized between every rental, and tough enough to be stacked five high without buckling. They lock shut with reusable zip ties so your stuff doesn't go anywhere on the truck — and you sleep a little easier on move night.

Most customers find the bins are cheaper than buying enough cardboard to do the job right, and a lot less stressful. That's the Otter way: small things, done right, with less waste in the world.

Why Plastic Beats Cardboard

Stronger, faster, kinder — in nine ways.

Most NYC apartments aren't built for moving day. Plastic bins solve a lot of small problems that cardboard makes worse.

Cheaper than cardboard

Buying enough quality cardboard for a real move usually costs more than renting our bins for two weeks.

Crush-proof & sturdy

Stack them five high without a single sag or split. Heavy books on the bottom, fragile lamps on top.

Waterproof & dust-proof

Brooklyn weather doesn't care about your move day. Sealed lids keep rain, snow, and storage dust out for good.

Zero tape, zero waste

Lids snap shut and zip-tie closed. No box knife, no tape gun, no shredded mess on your last day.

Lockable for valuables

Zip-tie seals tell you instantly if a bin was opened. Valuables stay sealed from the moment you close them.

Pre-assembled — no building

They arrive at your door ready to fill. No flattened cardboard, no folding, no taping the bottom seam twice.

Sanitized between rentals

Every bin is washed, sanitized, and inspected after each customer. Yours arrive clean, with no mystery dust.

Made from recycled plastic

Every bin is built from 100% recycled material. Each rental keeps dozens of new cardboard boxes out of landfill.

We come pick them up

Once you're unpacked, you don't have to do a thing. We come back, collect the bins, and clean them up for you.

The Otter Bin Difference

Small bins, big impact. Every single rental.

We've delivered tens of thousands of bins around NYC since 2022, and we keep track of the difference it makes. Here's what one average rental looks like in numbers.

What's Always Included

Every bin rental comes with everything you'll need.

We've moved enough NYC apartments to know exactly what makes packing day go smoothly — and what makes it fall apart. So every Otter bin rental ships with the same complete kit, no upsells, no "oh, you'll need to grab one of those separately."

Whether you go with a Studio Pack or a Family Pack, you get the bins, the ties, the labels, and the wardrobe boxes on move day. One reservation, everything handled.

Reserve your bins

Heavy-duty plastic bins (27" × 16" × 13")

Stackable, lockable, crush-proof. Roughly the equivalent of a large cardboard moving box, but tougher and ready to use.

Free door-to-door delivery & pickup

We drop off 7 days before your moving day and pick up 7 days after. Free in most of NYC; small fee may apply for outer areas.

Reusable zip ties & room labels

Snap the lid shut, slide a zip tie through, label by room. Bins arrive at your new place sealed and sorted.

Wardrobe boxes on moving day

Tall cardboard wardrobe boxes are dropped off the day of your move so hanging clothes go straight from closet to truck.

Sanitized, inspected, and ready

Every bin is washed and inspected after each rental — so the bins that arrive at your door are clean, dry, and ready for your stuff.

Where We Deliver

Bins delivered all over NYC & Jersey.

Our bin rental fleet runs out of our Brooklyn warehouse and covers every borough except Staten Island, plus the closest parts of Jersey.

We deliver to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, plus Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, and Edgewater in New Jersey. Delivery is free for most addresses; a small delivery fee may apply for outer neighborhoods or buildings with limited access. Your Otter coordinator will confirm everything when you reserve.

What our customers say

Real renters. Real moves.

Here's what some of our recent bin rental customers had to say after their move day.

One-Bedroom Pack
"

I rented 30 bins for our move from Williamsburg to the Upper East Side and I'm never going back to cardboard. They showed up the next day, stacked neatly inside my apartment. Packing was actually kind of relaxing? No tape gun screaming at 1am. The Otter team picked them up the day I said I'd be done and the whole thing felt like cheating.

Studio Pack
"

Tiny East Village studio, tiny budget, and somehow a mountain of stuff. The Studio Pack was honestly cheaper than buying decent boxes at the hardware store, and I didn't have to break anything down at the end. Just zip tied them shut, labeled by room, and left them stacked in the hallway for pickup. Done.

Family Pack
"

We moved our whole family from a 3-bed in Park Slope to a townhouse in Cobble Hill and the Family Pack was a game-changer. Two kids, ten years of accumulated stuff, zero patience for cardboard. The bins stacked perfectly in the truck and our movers loved them too — way faster to load. Will absolutely use again.

How it works

From reservation to pickup, in five simple steps.

The bin rental process is built to be the easy part of your move. Reserve online, we drop off, you pack, we move, we collect. Here's how each step works.

  1. Reserve your bundle online
  2. We deliver to your door
  3. Pack at your own pace
  4. Move day — bins on the truck
  5. Unpack, then we pick up

1 Reservation

Pick your bundle and lock in a delivery date

The earlier you reserve, the more delivery windows you'll have to pick from. We recommend reserving at least one week before your delivery date, especially around the 1st and 31st of the month when NYC lease cycles are at peak.

Not sure which bundle is right for you? Most people slightly overestimate what they own. If you're between sizes, go one tier up — extra bins are easier than running out at midnight. You can always swap bundles before delivery, or add à la carte bins for $4 each.

2 Delivery

Bins arrive 7 days before your moving day

Our team brings everything to your door on the delivery date you picked: the bins, the zip ties, and the labels. They're stacked neatly inside your apartment (or in the lobby, if your building doesn't allow elevator deliveries above a certain floor).

No assembly. No taping. No flattening anything. You just open one, drop your stuff in, and snap the lid shut. Wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes are delivered separately on the day of your move so they don't get in your way during the packing week.

3 Packing

Pack at your own pace, the way that suits you

You've got the full week to pack. Most people knock out one room at a time, label as they go, and give anything breakable an extra layer of wrapping.

If you want help with the packing itself, our crews can take that off your hands too — just ask us about adding packing service to your bin rental, and a team will come do the whole thing for you. Either way, when move day rolls around, every bin is closed, zip-tied, labeled, and ready to load.

4 Moving

Move day: stack 'em up, load 'em in

If you booked Otter for your move, this is the smoothest part of the day. Our crew loads bins faster than they load cardboard — they stack flush, they don't sag, and there's no taping required at the truck. We use them as actual building blocks of the load.

If you're using a different mover (or moving yourself), our bins still play nice. They lock together when stacked, lock shut when closed, and survive the BQE without anyone breaking a sweat.

5 Pickup

Unpack, then we come back for them

Once you're settled in, just unpack at your own pace. You've got up to 7 days after your moving day to empty the bins, stack the empties somewhere accessible, and let us know you're ready.

We swing by, collect the bins, give you back your apartment, and take them to the wash. No flattening, no recycling pile in the hallway, no driving to a donation center with leftover supplies. That's it — you're done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bin rental questions, answered.

How long do I get the bins for?
Every rental is a 2-week cycle — bins drop off 7 days before your moving day, and we pick them up 7 days after. Need longer? Just ask. We can extend your rental for a small weekly fee.
How clean are the bins, really?
Every bin gets fully washed, sanitized, and inspected after each rental at our Brooklyn facility. Damaged bins are taken out of circulation. Yours will arrive dry, clean, and ready to fill.
What happens if a bin gets damaged?
Normal wear and tear is on us — these bins are built to take a beating. If a bin is genuinely destroyed (run over by a forklift, used as a sled, that kind of thing), there's a small replacement fee per bin. We're reasonable about it.
Do I need to be home for delivery and pickup?
Usually, yes — most NYC buildings require someone to sign for deliveries, and we like to make sure the bins land somewhere they won't be in your way. If you can't be there, talk to us and we'll work something out with your building or your super.
Can I rent bins without hiring Otter for the move?
Absolutely. Bin rental is a standalone service, no moving contract required. That said, if you do book Otter for the move itself, your crew will already be familiar with our bins and load them quickly — and we can usually bundle the cost.
What about my valuables and important documents?
We always recommend keeping irreplaceable items — passports, jewelry, hard drives, sentimental things — with you, not in the bins or on the truck. For everything else, the zip-tie seal on each bin lets you see immediately if it's been opened in transit.
What if I need more bins than my bundle includes?
Easy. Add as many extra bins as you need at $4 each. Just call your Otter coordinator before delivery (or even on delivery day) and we'll add them to your order.
Is there a delivery fee?
Delivery is free for most addresses in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and the close parts of New Jersey (Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Edgewater). Outer areas or hard-to-access buildings may have a small fee — we'll confirm everything at booking.
